“Greetings. Please be advised we will be conducting an informational picket outside the MTS Centre this Sunday between the hours of 6 pm-8 pm.  All members are encouraged to attend even if just for a short time.  We will be meeting at the Local 63 office at 5:45 pm Sunday, to gather signage, handouts, etc. and then we will proceed to the MTS Centre.”

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation.

Fraternally,

“A WINNER NEVER QUITS AND A QUITER NEVER WINS”

Local 63 of the I.A.T.S.E. is planning another informational picket for the 2014 Juno’s Red Carpet Event at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg, MB. on March 30, 2014.

Despite negotiating for close to 23 months before the opening of the MTS Centre in 2004, Local 63 was informed by management that they had decided to go with a temp firm NASCO which charges union rates but pays low-wage rates to its employees in order to make a profit.

Worst of all, MTS Centre even refused the Locals offer to match word for word the rates and conditions being offered by the out-of-province firm.

For the past ten years Local 63 has picketed shows at the MTS Centre. As well, after the Provincial Minister of Labour intervened by assigning a Conciliator for the parties, Local 63 has met with MTS exchanged proposals, received proposals from MTS and when close to agreeing, MTS refuses to continue and/or sign.

As recent as early 2012, after another 7 months of face to face meetings, MTS sent a contract to IATSE outlining settlement terms and then MTS informed the Local there was no longer any appetite to sign.
